May is Mental Health Awareness month, and over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of projects in this space. We’re not experts on mental health but we are experts in helping to communicate complex subject matter… and mental health is COMPLEX! Talking about mental health can be difficult, but video is making it easier across industries. In our video Let’s Talk Communication, we highlighted how the construction industry is breaking the silence on mental health. This approach applies to all sectors.
Across all industries, people are looking for real, relatable ways to talk about mental health, and video can make a big difference. Here are some reasons why:
Video makes difficult topics more approachable
It helps bridge the gap between silence and understanding, showing that it’s okay to not be okay. Whether it’s a personal story, an animation, or a workplace message, video lets organizations communicate with authenticity and empathy.
It gives people a voice
Not everyone is comfortable speaking up, but watching someone else share their experience can be a powerful first step. It creates space for others to say, “Me too.”
It’s easier to share
Video travels… on the internet, in team meetings, or even quietly via a link between colleagues. For someone facing challenges, it can be a low-pressure way to start a conversation or signal they need support.
It’s versatile and accessible
From polished productions to quick, heartfelt messages recorded on a phone, video is more attainable than ever. It can show emotion, share values, and build connections in ways text alone can’t.
Show without telling
Animation offers a way to depict sensitive or complex mental health topics without putting anyone on the spot. It lets you “show without telling,” creating space for understanding without awkwardness.
At its best, video captures our humanity, the struggles, the resilience, the quiet moments of support. For organizations, it’s not just a communication tool, it’s an invitation to care.
