Case Study:

Redwood Performance Group

“SmartServe”

Redwood Performance Group specializes in immersive e-learning design and development. We partnered with them to find a unique way to support the mandatory Smart Serve learning program for anyone serving alcohol in Ontario.

The Problem :

Redwood needed to produce a series of educational videos for Smart Serve to train viewers on the legislation and best practices for serving and selling alcohol. These scenarios were written to demonstrate potential real life challenges or conflicts licencees may run into when dealing with the public.

These scenarios needed to use real people and take place across a variety of locations, a real challenge on a limited production budget.

The Solution :

Sometimes real world restraints lead to the most creative decisions.  Without the budget to shoot in multiple commercial locations we offered a “sketchier” solution.  Art!
Each video was filmed on a green screen studio over 2 packed production days and then we transported our subjects to a variety of locations using the power of illustration to fill in the backgrounds. This resulted in not only an great economic solution but also created a unique and engaging visual style to help draw viewers in.

The Result :

The result was a cohesive and engaging revamp of Smart Serve into a multi-media program with interactive content including videos, vignettes, quizzes, and games.
