Training That Sticks:
The Key to Lasting Learning
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we learn. Not just the ‘sit through a session and check the box’ kind of learning, but the kind that actually stays with us and changes how we work.
Research shows that people forget up to 70% of what they learn within 24 hours. That’s a staggering number—especially when you consider how much time and money organizations spend on training.
Interestingly, the idea of continuous learning came up again and again during an International Women’s Day panel I had the privilege of joining. Whether it was learning to adapt to change, embracing new technologies like AI, or refining creative strategies, one thing was clear—growth comes from learning, and businesses that invest in it set themselves up for success.
That’s why, this month, we’re sharing our take on the importance of training. Our latest Storytime video explores the impact of not only making sure it has all the necessary information but also that it is consistent and repeatable.

3 Smart Strategies
for Lasting Learning
Investing in training is one thing—making it stick is another. Training is a large investment of time and resources for many organizations, yet people often struggle to retain and apply what they’ve learned. These training programs often fall flat, not because the content is bad, but because the approach doesn’t set people up for success.
Here are three ways to make learning more engaging, effective, and long-lasting.
Beat the Forgetting Curve with Reinforcement
Ever sat through a training session only to forget most of it a few days later? You’re not alone. Psychologists call this the Forgetting Curve, and it shows that we forget up to 70% of new information within 24 hours—unless it’s reinforced.
The Fix: Use microlearning—short, targeted training sessions spread out over time—to boost retention. Add follow-up resources, quizzes, or short recap videos to your training to keep the knowledge fresh.
Make Training Engaging with Active Learning
People learn best when they actively engage with content rather than passively absorb information. Traditional lectures and slide decks often lead to disengagement and poor retention.
The Fix: Incorporate interactive video, hands-on exercises, or real-world problem-solving scenarios to encourage participation. When people can apply what they learn in practical ways, the information is more likely to stick.
Use Storytelling to Make Training Memorable
Facts and figures are important, but stories are what stick. People remember narratives far better than bullet points, so framing training content through real-world examples, case studies, or animated storytelling makes it far more impactful.
The Fix: Use video-based storytelling to turn dry topics into engaging, relatable lessons. Our latest Storytime video is a great example—check it out!
When training is reinforced, interactive, and story-driven, people don’t just learn—they remember, apply, and grow.
Celebrating International Women’s Day:
Turning Challenges Into Opportunity
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women, amplify their voices, and reflect on the work still to be done. This year, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Women Leading Change: Turning Challenges into Opportunities panel, joining a group of inspiring women business owners to talk about resilience, innovation, and the power of bold decision-making.
Our conversation highlighted how women-led businesses are navigating change and embracing new possibilities in a rapidly shifting world. Some of the key takeaways from our discussion:
– Creativity is a business asset, not a risk. The brands that stand out are the ones willing to be bold in how they communicate.
– Businesses are shifting priorities rather than slashing budgets. The focus is on high-impact, measurable strategies.
– AI is a tool, not a replacement. Efficiency is great, but human creativity and connection will always be essential.
– Adaptability fuels growth. Thriving in change means staying open, learning constantly, and collaborating with the right people.
These discussions were a powerful reminder of why creative thinking and strong storytelling matter—it’s at the heart of what we do at Keyring Media.
